Dear Community Member,
I wanted to share with you the data obtained from a Budget Work Session conducted among the
MSAD #52 Board of Directors, district administrators and directors, and other members of the
school community on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Greene Central School. This was a
published public meeting. Selectmen from the communities of Greene, Leeds, and Turner were
invited to attend.
A "brainstorming" session in which board members, administrators, directors, and audience
members was conducted. Brainstorming sessions are opportunities for individuals to freely
express their thoughts and ideas on a given topic. In this case, the brainstorming concerned the
development of the district’s budget.
Participants worked in assigned small groups to discuss and note ideas for continuing, adding,
or deleting items within the district's budget. Areas reviewed included regular instruction,
special education, technology, sports/extra-curricular, administration, transportation, facilities,
food service, adult education, and the budget process itself. When brainstorming, judgments
were not made and questions focused on clarity. No thoughts were eliminated. Each small
group recorded participants' responses on chart paper and reported out those responses to all in
The included documents reflected the compilation of responses from each small group for each
of the areas discussed. This raw data would be utilized as themes emerge in the development of
the 2013-2014 budget.
