Principal's Update 12-8-16

posted Dec 8, 2016, 1:12 PM by Danielle Harris
Dear Parents, Friends, and Members of the Community,

Thanks so much to everyone who came to our Grades 4 – 6 winter concert last night to support your children. I hope you enjoyed the concert as much as I did. As always, Mrs. Newcomb put on a fantastic show!

Our PTC Family Ornament Night is tomorrow evening at 6:00 PM. Come hear a story, make an ornament, decorate sugar cookies, and have a family photo taken! It’s sure to be lots of fun!

Did you notice on this month’s lunch menu that our school lunch is FREE FOR EVERYONE on Fridays this month? If your child doesn’t normally eat hot lunch at school, have him or her try it out tomorrow and next Friday! Tomorrow’s lunch is frankfurter on a bun, tater tots, sun dried raisins, baked beans, and milk. I eat school lunch every day because it’s both delicious and nutritious. We have amazing amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables on the salad bar, too. Even if your child pays full price for lunches, you are sure to get your money’s worth! (And for the next 2 Fridays it's FREE!)

Do you know someone who could fill in from time to time as a substitute teacher? Our district is in desperate need and there is a FREE Substitute Teacher Training next Monday, December 12th from  5:30 - 9:00 PM at The Turner Adult Education Learning Center. *** THIS COURSE IS FREE, but you must register.*** Call 225-1010. Check out http://www.msad52.org/home/adult-education to explore what MSAD 52 Adult Education has to offer and to download their full brochure.

We are just about ready to send home sign up sheets for our after school clubs that will start in January. However, we do NOT have ANY volunteers to run Lego Clubs for us! This is the easiest club to run because you just put the Legos out on the tables in the library and let the kids play with them. They are so well behaved because they’re eagerly engaged for the entire hour. If you or someone you know can run this club from 3:10 - 4:05 PM for our students one day a week (you choose which day) for 6 weeks from the beginning of January until February vacation, please let me know ASAP. Otherwise, we won’t be able to offer Lego Club this year and that would be very sad.

Finally, I’ve been asked to remind everyone that now that winter is here, please make sure that every single day your child brings a hat, snow pants, boots, mittens, and a winter coat to school. Unless it is raining or the temperature is below 10 degrees, we go outside for recess every day for 30 minutes. That is a long time for your child to be cold or uncomfortable if he or she is not dressed adequately for the weather.

Wednesday, December 21 will be a half day, with students being released early at 12:10 PM. Please make sure to send in a note with your child or call Mrs. Parker at 524-5151 if your child needs a bus note to go somewhere other than their usual after school location on that day. Classes will resume on January 3, 2017. I hope that you and your family have a wonderful holiday break!

Sincerely,

Danielle Harris
