Technology Safety Presentation for Parents/Guardians

posted May 30, 2018, 6:53 AM by Jason Breton   [ updated May 30, 2018, 6:53 AM ]

Tripp Middle School is excited to announce that Abbe Chabot will be doing a presentation on June 4th in our library for the parents of 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Her presentation, "Technology and Your Child's Safety” will focus on online safety for parents. With summer break right around the corner we felt that this would be the perfect time to think about your child's online world and their safety.

Detective Abbe Chabot is a twenty year veteran of the Maine State Police, and has been an investigator for fifteen years, predominately as a homicide and violent crimes detective. Last year Abbe transitioned to the computer crimes unit, and now investigates child exploitation online. Abbe travels the state as an educator to parents and middle-school aged students on the dangers of social media, and best practices for online safety. Abbe offers a candid view of how to manage technology, device use, and social media that is safe for our children. She is an advocate of victim’s rights, and is a career-long K9 handler.

Presentation topics include device safety, social media applications management, responsible online footprint and communications, sextortion and sex trafficking. The presentation is built with adult content to give parents a realistic view of the dangers online. As a result, this a parent/caregiver, adults only session. Abbe will remain on site after the presentation to answer questions or field comments.

We hope to see many of you the evening of June 4th from 6:00 to ~ 7:30 PM in the Tripp library. If you need childcare to attend please email Kris Wing at

8th Grade End of Year Activities

posted Apr 26, 2018, 7:34 AM by Gail Marine

Each year a special dance is held for 8th-grade students. This year the dance will be held June 1st from 6-8PM. The other event is the trip to Funtown. This trip is only possible because of the hard work of a few parents to lead fundraisers to have enough funds to support the trip. This trip is planned for  June 15th.

v To attend the dance and Funtown trip students will have to meet the following criteria. This will be implemented starting April 30th

Ø  90% attendance

Ø  No Suspensions

Ø  No Fridays for a major offense

The final activity for the 8th-grade class will be Eighth Grade Recognition.  This will be held June 20th at Leavitt Gym at 6 pm. I look forward to seeing everyone at this event.

We have confirmed cases of influenza at Tripp. We have the custodian teams doing an extra cleaning of desks doorknobs, table and counters to help make sure we are as germ-free as possible. In the cafeteria, we have a sanitizer station next to the window the student drop off their trays to help prevent germs. Please do not hesitate to contact Krista Murray at Tripp or LAHS.

Habits of Work Rubric

posted Apr 2, 2018, 9:41 AM by Gail Marine

Recently we reviewed our Habits of Work Rubric and realized that some students were confused when the second row on the left side of the rubric read "Behavior". This line is really talking about student responsibility in the classroom. With this in mind, we have changed this row to read "Responsibility" to provide clarity for the students. See attached rubric.

New Schedule at Tripp

posted Feb 16, 2018, 12:47 PM by Gail Marine

When students return to school we will be using a new schedule. We are moving ten minutes from the end of the day to the break period. Break will move from five minutes long to 15 minutes long. This will give the students time to eat a nutritious snack and prepare for periods 3,4,5. All academic periods will remain at 70 minutes long.

The cafeteria will also be serving yogurt smoothies at this time. We are calling their snacks Second Chance Breakfast. If a student did not eat breakfast they can purchase a yogurt smoothie. The full schedule is attached to this message. Advisors will have new schedule stickers for the students to place in the agenda books. Thank you for your support.
